How is God Leading Us Today?

Is it time to put feet to our dreams and prayers?  How is God leading us today?

Well, there are many times I have an internal debate as to what to share with you when I write the weekly devotion for our web site.  Actually, I’m not writing for the web site, but for you whoever YOU are!  I came across the following prayer quoted by John Ed Mathison who was pastor of Frazer Memorial UMC in Montgomery, Alabama.  The prayer was originally written by Sir Francis Drake in Portsmouth, England (1577).  I share it with you so that together we can stretch our comfort zones and begin to engage our God-given dreams and visions; to follow through with the way in which God is leading us today as God led our fore-fathers and mothers in the faith.

Let us pray:

Disturb us, Lord, when
We are too well pleased with ourselves
When our dreams have come true
Because we dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely
Because we sailed too close to the shore.

Disturb us, Lord, when
With the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst
For the waters of life;
Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity
And in our efforts to build a new earth,
We have allowed our vision
Of the new Heaven to dim.

Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wider seas
Where storms will show Your mastery;
Where losing sight of land,
We shall find the stars.
We ask You to push back
The horizons of our hopes;
And to push us in the future
In strength, courage, hope and love.

This we ask in the name of our Captain,
Who is Jesus Christ.

Amen.

“…I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions…”  Joel 2:28
