Medical Insurance BHS offers 2 medical plans through BCBS of Alabama. Prescription coverage is offered through Medco. BHS pays a portion of the insurance premium each pay period. There is an initial waiting period before insurance coverage begins. Dental Insurance BHS offers 2 dental plans through BCBS of Alabama. There is an initial waiting period before insurance coverage begins. The Plans pay from 50% to 100% of covered charges, depending on the type of service. Vision Insurance A voluntary benefit plan that provides an eye exam and lenses every 12 months and an allowance for frames every 24 months. Also provides LASIK coverage discounts. 403(b) Retirement Plan
Employees can contribute immediately upon hire to the Plan.
After 12 months of service, BHS matches $.50 of every $1.00 contributed to the Plan, up to 6% of base pay. Matching contributions are immediately vested. Term Life Insurance BHS pays for one times annual base pay in term life insurance. Employees can purchase an additional 1, 2, 3, or 4 times annual base pay.
Employees can also buy spouse life insurance and/or child(ren) life insurance. Long Term Disability Insurance A benefit of 40% of base pay is provided at no cost - BHS pays for it. Employees can buy up to an additional 20% of base pay. Employee Assistance Program A free confidential assessment, counseling, and referral service for employees and their family. Flexible Spending Accounts Employees can contribute to a health care and/or dependent care flexible spending account on a pre-tax basis. All reimbursements are tax free. Individual Short Term Disability Insurance Employees can purchase an individual short-term disability policy that they own. Employees select an elimination period and a benefit period. Employees also choose a monthly benefit amount, up to 60% of base pay. Individual Critical Illness Insurance Employees can purchase an individual critical illness policy that they own. This insurance offers protection from the financial impact that can follow the diagnosis of certain critical illnesses, like a stroke or heart attack. Earned Time Off (ETO) A bank of time for vacations, BHS recognized holidays, sick days, personal days and birthdays. Time accrues each pay period and unused time rolls over to the next year, subject to a cap. Accrual amount is based on length of service. Personal Illness Bank (PIB) A bank of time for extended illness. Time accrues each pay period up to a maximum of 90 days. Educational Benefits BHS reimburses employees for tuition related to approved studies. BHS also offers interest free Education Starter Loans. Chapels and Chaplains Chapel and counseling services. Employee Benevolent Fund Employees may contribute, via payroll deduction, to help fellow employees in need. Service Awards Recognition and gifts presented to employees for years served with BHS. Employee Discounts Discounts offered by each BHS hospital for cafeteria and gift shop. Parking Free parking at BHS hospitals. Birthday Meals Hospital employees offered free meal in hospital cafeteria Adoption Assistance Provides a $3,000 benefit per adoption and $4,000 for adopting a child with special needs. Lifetime maximum equal to two adoptions. YMCA Membership Discount $10 discount on the monthly membership fee and 50% off enrollment fee. Tobacco Cessation Program A free program for employees and their spouse offering phone-based counseling and free nicotine patches and gum. Chronic Conditions Management Targeted comprehensive program providing coaching, educational tools, nursing support, and financial incentives for covered conditions. Wellness Program A program offering a free annual health screening and health report as well as many wellness related programs. Participation is voluntary and confidential. A discount on medical insurance is provided for participants. Business Travel Accident Insurance BHS provides a life and dismemberment policy equal to $100,000 in life insurance that covers employees while traveling on company business.
