ALABASTER, AL --- Shelby Baptist Medical Center has been awarded two 2009 VHA Leadership Awards for Clinical Excellence based on its outstanding clinical performance in treating heart attacks and for receiving positive ratings from patients. The VHA annually recognizes member organizations that have differentiated themselves by demonstrating extraordinary levels of performance in clinical care, community benefit and supply chain management performance. 

According to VHA, Shelby Baptist demonstrated the highest level of sustained improvement for the treatment of heart attack.

Shelby Baptist also achieved a high positive response rating from patients in all six categories of an assessment conducted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

"Serving the community is our ministry," said David Wilson, Shelby Baptist president and CEO. "Employees throughout our hospital strive each day to reach superior levels of performance while working to expand our faith-based approach of healing and caring for those in need. Receiving these awards is evidence of our efforts and we are truly honored." 

The hospital will be recognized at a special awards banquet in May during the 2009 VHA Leadership Conference in San Antonio, TX.
