About Us

Welcome from Citizens Baptist Medical Center

The staff and management of CBMC is pleased to share the progress and status of our North Talladega County hospital ministry. Citizens continues to live it mission by offering programs and services that are beneficial and bring value to the communities we serve. In everything we do, we are mindful of "the gift of healing" and the trust and confidence that each patient and family member places in us as a healthcare ministry on a daily basis; and on behalf of the physicians and staff of Citizens Baptist, thank you for allowing us the opportunity to serve you.

Our goals going forward are to strengthen our emphasis on ministry, benefit our community, and add value in terms of the quality of life we bring to the people of North Talladega County. Please consider the following:

Community Benefit:
Citizens provided more than $1.5 million dollars in free services to our community in 2006, a substantial increase over the previous year. This amount is the actual cash value of services determined by a third party accounting firm. The number of uninsured and underinsured people in Alabama is growing dramatically and care of the uninsured is a cost that may threaten the future of public access to quality hospital care.

Technology:
Since 2005 Citizens has invested $5 million in technology upgrades and new equipment/furnishings, including:

Nuclear Medicine $378,000
Digital Mammography $465,000
PACS $800,000
Digital R/F Room Replacement $80,000
Multi-Slice CT $1,520,000
Patient Room Upgrades $80,000
ICU Monitors $225,000
QS Obstetrical Monitoring System $80,000
X-Ray C-Arm $202,000
Neuro-Physiology Lab $80,000
Senior Care Unit $1,200,000

Physicians:
Citizens is proud to announce its association with Birmingham Radiological Group, Princeton, P.C. The addition of six highly qualified radiologists is an asset to our medical staff and community. Their experience and expertise will enhance and compliment the diagnostic services offered by our facility. You can read more about these physicians in a featured article included in this update.

There are now more than 40 full-time physicians on our medical staff, most of whom are board certified in their specialties.

Employment:
Citizens has more than 346 full and part-time employees and an annual payroll exceeding $12 million dollars. More than half of Citizens employees live in the cities of Lincoln, Talladega, and Munford.

Quality:
On the delivery of patient care, patient safety and quality are our top priorities. By partnering with such organizations as Blue Cross and Blue Shield and the Alabama Hospital Association, Citizens is creating a culture of excellence and safety in how we treat our patients and families. This focus on quality has allowed us to maintain accreditation with the Joint Commission on Accreditation for Hospitals, which is recognized by Medicare and Medicaid for setting standards of quality in the healthcare industry.

Our Patients:
Almost 80% of our patients reside in North Talladega County.
Over 4,000 inpatient admissions
Over 14,000 nights spent in hospital
Over 26,000 emergency room visits
Over 4,100 outpatient surgical procedures

The future:

  • Citizens will continue to emphasize our healing ministry through pastoral care and through becoming more interactive as an extension of area faith congregations. Our goal is to be perceived as a place of healing and as an organization deeply committed to Christian values in the delivery of hospital service.

  • A Senior Care unit focusing on meeting the needs of patients who require special physical, emotional, and social needs will soon occupy the hospital's fourth floor. The fifteen bed unit is dedicated to treating medical and behavioral conditions of senior adults ages 65 and older. This service will add a significant amount of patient care activity to our hospital. The unit, which will employ an additional 24 staff members, will offer the community access to a comprehensive program aimed at managing co-existing medical illness.

  • Citizens is on a journey to become a "magnet hospital" as designated by the American Nurses Association. This process creates and assures the highest possible standards for nursing practices and creates an environment of clinical excellence, safety, and continual process improvements.
