In June of 2007, Citizens Baptist opened a Senior Care Unit focusing on patients who require special physical, emotional and social needs. The 14-bed unit is dedicated to treating behavioral conditions of senior adults ages 65 and older.
The unit offers the community access to a comprehensive program aimed at assisting patients and their families cope with cognitive and behavioral changes occurring as a result of the aging process. A holistic approach toward healthcare is realized through the unit's efforts in treating co-existing medical and emotional illnesses and the management of medication regimens for patients.
According to the Geriatric Mental Health Foundation, older adults with a variety of concerns seek psychiatric services for the first time later in life. These include, but are not limited to, dementia, depression and anxiety.
Citizens Baptist Senior Care Unit focuses on individualized treatment plans, education and counseling for both patient and family members; and assisting in the transition from hospital to home care with emphasis on the least restrictive environment necessary for preserving the patient's quality of life.
