Usually ordered by physicians as a means of diagnosing breast cancer, a biopsy is a procedure in which tissue is removed from the breast and examined to determine if it is cancerous.
The stereotactic breast biopsy procedure is minimally invasive and can be performed with local anesthesia. The procedure is done in the diagnostic imaging department and does not require that the patient be taken to the operating room. It can result in less pain and scarring than other breast biopsy techniques. For more information on this procedure, call 256-761-4229.
