'Top Performer on Key Quality Measure' Recognition from The Joint Commission - September 2011

Walker Baptist Medical Center was named among the nation's top performers on key quality measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. Walker Baptist was recognized by The Joint Commission based on data reported about evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. 
 
Walker Baptist is one of ten hospitals in Alabama and 405 U.S. hospitals and critical access hospitals to earn the distinction of top performer on key quality measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance.

 
   

"Best Hospital" List: 2011-2012

Walker Baptist Medical Center has been ranked among the top hospitals in the Birmingham metro area in U.S. News Media & World Report's 2011-12 "Best Hospitals" rankings. This marks the second consecutive year for Walker Baptist to receive the honor.

To be ranked in its metro area, a hospital had to score in the top 25 percent among its peers in at least one of 16 medical specialties. Walker Baptist is ranked as a high performer in neurology/neurosurgery and pulmonary.

Walker is among 720 hospitals (out of about 5,000 hospitals nationwide) showcased in this year's ranking. Each hospital is ranked among the country's top hospitals in at least one medical specialty and/or ranked among the best hospitals in its metro area.

   

Best Places To Work - 2010

Baptist Health System was named one of the Birmingham Business Journal's (BBJ) Best Places to Work for 2010. On behalf of the BBJ, Quantum Workplace conducted surveys for nominated companies throughout Birmingham and each company was required to complete a predetermined number of surveys. Companies were divided into three categories based on its number of employees and were ranked in order of score. The highest were designated as one of Birmingham's Best Places to Work.

   

American Heart Association's Get With the Guidelines: Heart Failure Silver Award 2010

This award recognized hospitals that demonstrate at least 85 percent compluance in each of the give HF achievement measures. The different levels reflect the amount of time for which the hospital demonstrates performance. Silver recognizes performance of 12 consecutive months.

   
VHA Cardiac Clinical Excellence - June 2009

The VHA annually recognizes member organizations that have differentiated themselves by demonstrating extraordinary levels of performance in clinical care, community benefit and supply chain management performance. According to VHA, Walker Baptist demonstrated the highest level of sustained improvement for the treatment of heart attack. 

 

VHA Patient Satisfaction - June 2009

This award recognizes hospitals who have received high ratings from patients in doctor and nurse communication, staff responsiveness, pain management, communications about medications and discharge instructions.  

Best Places To Work - 2009

Baptist Health System was named one of the Birmingham Business Journal's (BBJ) Best Places to Work for 2009. VHA President's Award of Excellence Leadership Award - June 2008

This is the highest level of recognition from VHA Inc. for their performance in all three leadership award categories: clinical excellence; community benefit excellence; and supply chain management. Representatives from Walker Baptist and the Baptist Health System were honored at VHA's Leadership Conference in Philadelphia. VHA serves more than 1,400 not-for-profit hospitals nationwide, and Walker Baptist was one of two hospitals nationwide to be recognized with this top honor.

 

HealthGrades Orthopedic Surgery Excellence Award for third consecutive year - December 2008

For the fourth year in a row, HealthGrades ranked Walker Baptist Medical Center as one of the top 10 percent in the country for orthopedic services and one of the top three for overall orthopedics. As a result of the rankings by HealthGrades, the leading independent health care ratings company, WBMC has received an Orthopedic Surgery Excellence Award for its third year in a row. The facility also received five-star ratings for spine surgery and total knee replacement along with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) treatment. HealthGrades determines its ratings by reviewing more than 41 million Medicare hospitalization records at the nation's approximately 5,000 non-federal hospitals. Hospitals with above average results are recognized with a five-star rating, average with three stars and below average with one star.

 

 
Health Grades Joint Replacement Excellence Award for fourth consecutive year - December 2008

The best facility in Alabama for joint replacement and the Joint Replacement Excellence Award for its fourth year.

MIDAS+ Platinum Quality Award - 2008 & 2009

This award is based upon the hospital's 2008 performance in the ACS MIDAS+ National Comparative Database for key areas of clinical performance. MIDAS+ is a system that increases hospital operational efficiencies such as case management, quality, risk, accreditation preparedness, physician profiling and review among others.

 

American Heart Association's Get With the Guidelines: Heart Failure Silver - September 2008

American Heart Association's Bronze Award - September 2008

Hospitals participating in Get With The Guidelines that demonstrate high performance are eligible to receive Performance Awards. The Bronze Performance Award is conferred on hospitals that have achieved 90 consecutive days of 85 percent adherence to performance measures.

 

American Heart Association's Get With the Guidelines: Coronary Artery Disease Bronze Award - September 2008

This award recognizes hospitals that demonstrate at least 85 percent compliance in each of the six GWTG-CAD Achievement Measures. The different levels reflect the amount of time for which the hospital demonstrates performance. Bronze recognizes performance of 90 consecutive days.

 

Newborn Screening Reliability - June 2009

Walker Baptist Medical Center received special recognition from the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) for its newborn screening reliability. According to ADPH, Walker Baptist exceeded goals for submitting their satisfactory newborn screening blood specimens for 2008 and was one of three Alabama hospitals to be recognized. Newborn screening is a series of blood and hearing tests that are administered within the first few days of an infant's life and are required by state law. These tests look for signs of unseen inherited or acquired disorders that could potentially have disastrous results if left undetected or untreated.
