Pastoral Care

"The LORD is my shepherd...."  Psalm 23

Shelby Baptist Medical Center is a faith based health care facility that is proactive in its attentiveness and sensitivity to patient's spiritual and emotional needs.

Shelby Baptist Medical Center has two, full-time chaplains who are both certified with the Association of Professional Chaplains. A chaplain is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at Shelby Baptist. Shelby Baptist's pastoral care staff is dedicated to patients, families and friends by providing guidance in difficult times and rejoicing with patients during happy times. There are also volunteer chaplains, representing five denominations, who provide support and are a bridge to community churches.

Shelby Baptist Medical Center also offers two areas of reflection in the hospital, the Prayer Garden and Reeves Chapel. The Prayer Garden is located on the second floor of the hospital near the nurses station on 2 Main. The Prayer Garden was a gift from the Volunteer Auxiliary and was dedicated in April 2007. It is a source of connecting with one's faith. Reeves Chapel, which is also located on the second floor, is always open for scripture reading, prayer and reflection. Weekly devotional services are held each Tuesday in Reeves Chapel from 1:30 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.

"I come to the garden alone...and the voice I hear falling on my ear, the Son of God discloses. And He walks with me, and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own; and the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known." (In the Garden, Austin Miles, 1913; ref: John 20:11-18)
